Born in 1937 in Oita. After graduating from Veterinary School, Taketazu worked as a veterinarian in Hokkaido. Since 1972, he has tried to protect, cure and rehabilitate injured wild animals, and continues to this day to observe them closely. He is also famous as an essayist and photographer. The release of the 2007 film, “Helen the Fox Cub”, based on Taketazu’s story of a fox cub patient at his surgery, attracted a good deal of public attention and increased interest in Taketazu’s work.
