Hanmo Sugiura
Born in Aichi in 1931.
In 1964, after studying design at university, he established his own design company and began producing original works in the fields of graphics and illustration.
For his graphic work, he has won ‘Asahi Advertisement Award (Silver Medal)‘, ‘Mainichi Design Award‘ and ‘Japan Advertising Artists Club Award‘ and his children's picture book ‘In a Balloon over Eyelash Ocean‘ was nominated for ‘Graphic Prize‘ in the 1984 Bologna International Book Fair.
In 1985, Sugiura received ‘The Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Prize For New Artists‘ for his children's picture books, which are famous for their originality of color and composition in Japan and around the world. |
